Northern Territory Business Steward to Chair AIM

Respected Darwin business identity, James Scotland AFAIM, has been appointed Chair of the Australian Institute of Management Northern Territory Council, taking on a commitment to furthering the professional development opportunities offered to NT managers.

As Senior Manager, Sales & Distribution at TIO Finance and Insurance, James steps up to the leadership role with plans to shape local learning and networking options in the NT with the same vision and drive he used in the enhancement of the TIO brand.

“If there is one thing that over 20 years experience in senior management has told me, it is that the best natural resource available is people, in particular, business and community leaders”, he said.

“Through AIM there is real opportunity to foster the leadership skills of our members and the wider community through training, our events and the Management Excellence Awards,” Mr Scotland said.

The Management Excellence Awards program recognises excellent managers from all industries and at all levels competing across four categories; and with nominations and sponsorship for the 2004 program continuing to exceed previous records, the Institute is on track to achieve their stated commitment.

Additionally, the NT Council has been diligent in providing ‘big name' management speakers in 2004, with presentations from identities including Janet Holmes a Court, Shane Stone (Executive Chairman of the APAC Group of Companies) and Professor Helen Garnett (Vice-Chancellor at Charles Darwin University).

During his nine years in the Territory, James has been extremely active in the business community, being a Board Member of the NT Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the International Business Council of the NT, Vice President and Board Member of the Rotary Club Darwin and a current Council Member of the United Services Institute.

James has also received a number of personal accolades, including the 2002 NT Insurance Professional of the Year and 2003 International Business Student of the Year.

Mr Scotland has taken the reigns from immediate Past Chair, Bruce Bird FAIM, at a time of significant growth for the Institute and with a supporting Council of eight local business leaders.
