Membership Self Assessment Tool

In today’s business world, your colleagues, your networks and the industry in which you work recognize that membership to professional organizations and postnominals define individuals as business professionals.

The Australian Institute of Management, through a grading system for personal members, supports professional credentials and educational qualifications through nationally recognised postnominals.

Professional Grades

  • Fellow (FAIM)
  • Associate Fellow (AFAIM)
  • Member (AIMM)

Affiliate Grades

  • eStudent

Membership of AIM is open to applicants from all fields of management endeavor, ranging from trainees to those who have already achieved success at the highest level. Entry may be made at any level of membership.

Self Assessment

Answer the questions below to determine the level at which you can apply for personal/professional membership. If you answer the majority of questions, then that’s the right grade for you. Tick the box to answer yes.

eStudent

Do you have management and leadership in your sights?

Are you a full time University/TAFE/College student (or equivalent 60% or more workload)?
Are you in your final year of senior study and plan to commence higher education/tertiary qualification in the following year?
Are you enrolled in full time study in the field of business, commerce, communication, economics, psychology or arts?
 

Member (AIMM)

Are you an aspiring manager?

Are you in a position with management or team leader responsibility?
Are you in a position with responsibilities for planning and decision making, management of people and/or management of assets?
Are you in a position with financial responsibility?
Are you in a position responsible for the management of virtual or a cross functional team?
Do you have a University/CAE Degree or Diploma in management/business studies or in a discipline appropriate your work?

If you have ticked more than 5 of the above questions, please proceed to the next level. If you have answered less than 5, you are eligible to join the Australian Institute of Management at Member level.

 

Associate Fellow (AFAIM)

Do you satisfy all the questions in the Member (AIMM) category as above?

Do you have a record of proven management achievement over a period of five (5) years or more in a senior management position? Eg. Chief Executive, General Manager or Functional Manager.

The required period of proven management achievement may be reduced by up to three (3) years, dependent on credits gained through holding approved educational qualifications appropriate to this level of management.

Are you in a position that requires delegation of authority to other persons?
Are you in a specialist position that requires management and entrepreneurial skills, the exercise of which has a substantial impact on the overall operations of the organisation?
Do you have a University/CAE Degree or Diploma in management/business studies or in a discipline appropriate your work?
Do you have post graduate qualifications in management/business studies?

If you have ticked more than 5 of the above questions, please proceed to the next level. If you have answered less than 5, you may be eligible to join the Australian Institute of Management at the second highest level of grading: Associate Fellow (AFAIM).

 

Fellow (FAIM)

Do you satisfy all the questions in the Associate Fellow (AFAIM) category as above?

Do you have a record of proven management achievement over a period of six (6) years or more in a general executive management position? Eg. Chief Executive or Group /Chief/ State General Manager.

The required period of proven management achievement may be reduced by up to two (2) years, dependent on credits gained through holding approved educational qualifications appropriate to this level of management.

Are you in a position that involves such complexity as to require the delegation of authority to staff at Associate Fellow level and/or Fellow level?
Are you a senior specialist in a particular field that requires providing advice of a highly significant nature to general executive management?
Do you have a University/CAE Degree or Diploma in management/business studies or in a discipline appropriate your work?
Do you have post graduate qualifications in management/business studies?

If you have ticked more than 5 of the above questions, you may be eligible to join the Australian Institute of Management at the highest level of grading: Fellow (FAIM).
